Dennis M. Manner, retired Buick Engineer will present:
“The History of Buick V-8 Performance Development & The Development of the Buick Turbo V-6”
With a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota,
Dennis started at Buick in 1959 working on the 401 V-8 and the 215 aluminum
V-8. He helped design and develop V-8ʼs and every V-6 through the 3800
Series 2, until his retirement in 1996. With his interest in performance, he is
recognized for his leadership of the Dual Carburetor 425 optional
performance engine, as well as the Stage 1 and the Stage 2 performance
parts. He continues to serve as a Technical Advisor for Buick engines and a
participant not only in the BCA but other Buick organizations. He owns a 1966
dual quad 425 Riviera GS and a 1972 Skylark GS Stage 1.
On display during this meet is a partial engine consisting of an experimental
Buick 455 reinforced cylinder block, experimental cylinder heads with Stage 2
exhaust ports, enlarged intake ports, and their history entailing
performance data for Buickʼs performance programs.
